The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), a government-owned entity under Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, has released tender documents for the seventh round of the country’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP).

The latest round has invited bids for 3.1 GW of solar and 2.2 GW of wind energy projects.

Bids must be submitted by September 29, 2025.

The solar power projects are:

  • Tabarjal 2 Solar Project in the Al-Jouf region, with a capacity of 1,400 MW.
  • Moqaq Solar Project in the Hail region, with a capacity of 600 MW.
  • Tathleeth Solar Project in the Asir region, with a capacity of 600 MW.
  • South AlUla Solar Project in the Al-Madinah region, with a capacity of 500 MW.

The wind projects are:

  • Balgha Wind Project in the Al-Madinah region, with a capacity of 1,300 MW.
  • Shaqran Wind Project in the Al-Madinah region, with a capacity of 900 MW

These projects are part of NREP, which aims to achieve an optimal energy mix and supply 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. SPPC is responsible for preparing feasibility studies, tendering electricity generation projects, and signing power purchase agreements (PPA) with developers.

To date, the SPPC has tendered renewable energy projects with a combined capacity exceeding 43 GW, out of which PPAs have already been signed for projects totaling more than 38 GW.

In January, Saudi Arabia announced the pre-qualification of bidders for its 2,000 MW/8000 MWh battery energy storage systems tender under its renewable energy expansion strategy.

Last December, SPPC finalized power purchase agreements for three solar photovoltaic projects totaling 1.7 GW as part of NREP. It also confirmed these agreements were under the program’s fifth round, where it shortlisted bids for an additional 3.7 GW capacity.

In September last year, SPPC invited bids for 4.5 GW of renewable energy projects under NREP’s sixth round.
