REMCL, a joint venture between the Ministry of Railways and Rail India Technical and Economic Service, has invited bids to set up a cumulative 1.25 MW of rooftop solar projects at four railway stations in Maharashtra.

These projects will be set up at the Mira Road (120 kW), Neral (465 kW), Virar (475 kW), and Palghar (190 kW) railway stations.

Bids must be submitted by July 4, 2025. Bids will be opened on July 7.

Bidders must submit a bid security of ₹483,600 (~$5,605.89).

The project’s estimated cost is ₹66.71 million (~$773,302).

The scope of work entails the design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning of the solar projects. It also covers operation and maintenance for five years.

The projects must use solar modules of at least 550 W capacity and a solar grid-connected inverter of suitable capacity. They must also use a three-phase, bidirectional net energy meter and a three-phase, four-wire, unidirectional solar generation meter.

Selected bidders must facilitate net metering for the projects. They must also provide water supply arrangements for cleaning solar modules.

Successful bidders must install the rooftop solar projects at the Mira Road and Neral railway stations within six months. They must install the projects at the Virar and Palghar railway stations within eight months.

They must also ensure a capacity utilization factor of at least 17% for each project.

Successful bidders must use solar modules manufactured in India.

Bidders must have completed similar work of rooftop or ground-mounted solar projects as an engineering, procurement, and construction contractor or as a developer in the last seven years:

  • Three similar works, each of at least 30% of the tender value
  • Two similar works, each of at least 40% of the tender value
  • One similar work of at least 60% of the tender value

Bidders must have a minimum annual turnover of ₹5 billion (~$58 million) in the last three financial years.

In January 2025, the Varanasi division (electrical) of the Northeastern Railway floated four tenders for a cumulative 10.4 MW on-grid rooftop solar systems at multiple buildings in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

In the same month, REMCL invited bids to select developers for supplying 500 MW of round-the-clock power from grid-connected renewable energy power projects (with or without storage) to the Indian Railways.
