Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated three solar power projects in Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh with a cumulative capacity of 800 MW.
The events featured the commissioning of a 200 MW solar project by SAEL Group’s Sunfree Energy RJP1, the inauguration of EDEN Renewables India’s 300 MW Alma Solar PV Project, and the foundation stone laying for a 300 MW solar project by Amara Raja Infra for Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
He had also launched a slew of renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 2,458 MW across the country in September. These included Avaada’s 1,560 MW solar plus 2,500 MWh battery energy storage system project in Rajasthan and Sunstream Green Energy’s 140 MW solar project in Maharashtra.
SAEL Group Project
The 200 MW solar project at Jalore, Rajasthan, developed by Sunfree Energy, spans over 1,000 acres and is equipped with N-Type TOPCon bifacial solar modules, featuring 146 cells and 156 cells with peak outputs of up to 635 W and efficiencies of up to 22.95%. These modules were manufactured at SAEL’s Kishangarh facility.
Amara Raja Infra – SECI Solar Project
Amara Raja’s 300 MW solar project, located at Sri Sathya Sai district, Andhra Pradesh, is being developed for SECI under the second phase of the Central Public Sector Undertaking program (Tranche III).
Once completed, the project will add to the central government’s renewable energy portfolio.
Alma Solar Project
EDEN’s 300 MW Alma Solar PV Project is in Badi Sid, Phalodi, Rajasthan.
India added solar projects totaling 18 GW in the first half of 2025, a 31% year-over-year increase from the same period last year, according to Mercom India Research’s Q2 2025 India Solar Market Update.
Large-scale projects accounted for nearly 86%, and rooftop solar accounted for almost 14% of the cumulative installations. Solar projects accounted for 24% of India’s total installed power capacity and over 49% of the total installed renewable energy capacity as of the end of June 2025.
