Hyderabad-based solar module and cell manufacturer Premier Energies has commissioned a 7 GW N-type tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) G12R solar cell manufacturing facility at Naidupeta, Andhra Pradesh.

The facility raises the company’s total solar cell manufacturing capacity to 10.6 GW.

The company has started trial runs at the facility.

Spanning over 101 acres, the facility was developed with a capital expenditure of ₹32.93 billion (~$343.07 million).

The plant has a production capacity of approximately 88,000 solar cells per hour. It incorporates digital systems and artificial intelligence for predictive performance analysis, process control, and precision manufacturing. The facility also uses automated systems for material transport, packing, and packaging.

Premier Energies said the manufacturing line is designed to support upgrades to TOPCon+ technologies, including poly-finger metallization and advanced edge-isolation processes. Following stabilization and ramp up, the company is targeting an average solar cell efficiency of approximately 25.8%.

The company is also developing a 10 GW ingot and wafer plant.

The expansion plans are supported by a ₹125 billion (~$1.3 billion) capital expenditure program over three years.

Under the program, the company aims to double its solar manufacturing capacity, expand backward integration into ingots and wafers, and diversify into inverters, transformers, and battery energy storage systems.

The commissioning of the solar cell facility comes close at the heels of a 5.6 GW zero-busbar solar module manufacturing facility inaugurated by the company in Seetharampur, Telangana in July 2026.

The company also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a 6 GWh battery energy storage manufacturing facility and an aluminum frame manufacturing plant with an annual production capacity of 18,000 metric tons on the same premises.

During the first quarter (Q1) of the financial year (FY) 2027, Premier reported revenue of ₹24.63 billion (~$258.6 million), a 35.25% year-over-year jump from ₹18.21 billion (~$191.18 million).

During the quarter, Premier Energies’ solar cell production rose to 844 MW from 447 MW , while module production increased to 953 MW from 735 MW. Effective capacity utilization stood at 92% for cells and 73% for modules during the quarter.
