Powertrac Group, a renewable energy solutions provider, has announced plans to establish a 10 GWh battery energy storage manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The proposed manufacturing campus will span five acres and will integrate battery cell-to-pack production and pack-to-container assembly set-ups within a single facility.
Powertrac plans to use robotic automation and automated guided vehicle technology across the manufacturing operations.
The facility will manufacture battery energy storage solutions for commercial and industrial applications, utility-scale projects, and grid-connected installations. It will also support renewable energy and hybrid energy storage applications.
Powertrac said the integrated manufacturing setup will cover production from battery cells through finished containerized energy storage systems.
In February, the company invested ₹6 billion (~$66.17 million) to set up a 1,000 MWh per annum containerized battery energy storage system manufacturing facility. The facility manufactures lithium-iron phosphate battery pack assemblies, develops and integrates battery management systems in-house, produces 1 MWh to 5 MWh modular containerized grid-scale battery energy storage systems, and works on solar-plus-BESS hybrid energy solutions.
According to data from the Mercom India Renewable Energy Project Tracker, India’s energy storage pipeline crossed 110 GWh across the under-development and pre-construction stages. The pipeline includes battery energy storage systems and pumped storage projects.
The current 110 GWh pipeline represents roughly 25% of the Central Electricity Authority’s National Electricity Plan forecast of a storage requirement of about 411.4 GWh and 74 GW by 2031-32. This includes 236.22 GWh and 47.24 GW of battery storage capacity.
India added 4.6 GWh of battery energy storage capacity in the first quarter of 2026, a 941% increase from 442.7 MWh added in Q4 2025, according to Mercom India Research’s Q1 2026 India’s Energy Storage Landscape Report. The country’s cumulative installed battery energy storage capacity reached 5.9 GWh as of March 2026.
Battery energy storage system manufacturers say that following the widespread adoption of 280Ah and 314Ah lithium iron phosphate cells, manufacturers are introducing 587Ah, 600Ah+, and even 1,000Ah+ cell platforms.
