Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has invited bids to set up five standalone battery energy storage systems with a cumulative capacity of 750 MW/3,000 MWh across multiple locations in West Bengal.
Durgapur Projects
The tender includes the development of a 200 MW/800 MWh standalone battery energy storage system at Durgapur Projects in West Bengal.
Bids must be submitted by June 22, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same day.
Bidders must have a minimum average annual turnover of ₹2.45 billion (~$25.6 million) in the best three of the last five financial years. They must have a positive net worth for the last three financial years, while liquid assets or access to credit facilities must be at least ₹1.09 billion (~$11.4 million).
Kharagpur
The tender covers a 100 MW/400 MWh battery energy storage system project in Kharagpur.
Bids must be submitted by June 22, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same day.
Bidders must have a minimum average annual turnover of ₹1.23 billion (~$12.8 million), a positive net worth for the last three financial years, and liquid assets or access to credit facilities of at least ₹546.3 million (~$5.7 million).
Hooghly
This tender involves the establishment of a 100 MW/400 MWh storage system in Hooghly.

Jeerat
The tender includes the development of a 100 MW/400 MWh battery storage capacity in Jeerat.

Bidders must have a minimum average annual turnover of ₹1.23 billion (~$12.8 million), a positive net worth for the last three financial years, and liquid assets or access to credit facilities of at least ₹546.3 million (~$5.7 million).
Goaltore
The tender covers a 250 MW/1,000 MWh battery storage project in Goaltore.
Bids must be submitted by June 22, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same day.
Bidders must have a minimum average annual turnover of ₹3.07 billion (~$32 million), a positive net worth for the last three financial years, and liquid assets or access to credit facilities of at least ₹1.36 billion (~$14.2 million).
The scope of work includes the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the battery storage systems. The completion period for each package is 15 months. After commissioning and takeover, the contractor will be responsible for comprehensive maintenance for 15 years.
Bidders must qualify under one of two technical routes.
Under the first route, bidders must have supplied, erected, tested, and commissioned grid-connected battery storage systems with a cumulative capacity of at least 10 MWh as a prime contractor.
Alternatively, they may qualify if they have supplied, erected, tested, and commissioned solar or wind power projects in India with a cumulative capacity of at least 50 MW, as a prime contractor, with each project having a minimum capacity of 10 MW.
Bidders may also qualify under the first route if they have erected, tested, and commissioned at least two air-insulated switchgear or gas-insulated switchgear circuit breaker bays of 33 kV or above in a substation or switchyard.
Under the second route, bidders must have manufactured and supplied at least 50 MWh of batteries of the offered technology during the last seven years, of which at least 10 MWh must be in satisfactory operation as of the original bid submission deadline. They may also qualify through a technical collaboration or a manufacturing license agreement with a battery manufacturer that meets these requirements.
In March this year, POWERGRID invited bids to set up a 100 MW/200 MWh BESS at the 220 kV Bhatinda substation in Punjab.
In the same month, the company invited bids to set up a 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Patiala, Punjab.
