Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has invited bids to set up a 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Patiala, Punjab.
The project forms part of a larger program to develop 500 MW/1,000 MWh of standalone battery storage capacity in Punjab.
Bids must be submitted by March 20, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same day.
The scope of work includes the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the battery storage system, the power conversion system (PCS), PCS transformers as per the contractor’s design, and interconnection with a 33 kV medium-voltage bus to be developed by the employer.
The tender also includes comprehensive operation and maintenance services for 12 years following commissioning.
Bidders must have supplied, erected, tested, and commissioned grid-connected BESS as a prime contractor with a cumulative capacity of at least 10 MWh.
Alternatively, they must have supplied, erected, tested, and commissioned at least one solar or wind power project with a capacity of 50 MW or higher in India as the prime contractor.
Bidders can also be battery manufacturers who have supplied 50 MWh of batteries during the last three years.
Another option allows qualification if bidders have erected, tested, and commissioned at least two air-insulated switchgear circuit-breaker-equipped bays at a voltage level of 132 kV or higher in a single substation or switchyard.
These projects must have been completed within the last seven years and must be in operating condition as of the originally scheduled bid submission date.
Bidders must have a minimum average annual turnover for the best three financial years out of the last five, each at least ₹1.18 billion (~$12.86 million). In addition, they must demonstrate liquid assets or access to credit facilities of at least ₹197.1 million (~$2.15 million).
Recently, POWERGRID floated tenders to set up three standalone BESS, each with a capacity of 100 MW/200 MWh, in Punjab.
In the same month, the company invited bids to set up a 100 MW/200 BESS at the 220 kV Bhatinda Substation in Punjab.
