Power Grid Corporation (PGCIL) of India, a state-owned power transmission company, has bagged three power transmission projects in Rajasthan through competitive bidding. These are built to evacuate 8.1 GW of power from solar energy zones in the state.

The company won all three projects on a build, own, operate and maintain basis, PGCIL said in a  BSE filing.

REC had invited bids in December 2020 to establish transmission systems to evacuate power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan. The invitation was extended to transmission service providers under phase II for part-A, B, and C of the transmission infrastructure program to evacuate 8.1 GW of power from these zones. PGCIL has won all three projects.

The transmission system for strengthening the evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan under Phase II includes evacuation of 1.05 GW in Bhadla complex, 2.2 GW in Fatehgarh complex, 1.9 GW in Ramgarh, and 2.95 GW in Bikaner.

The estimated completion time for projects A and B is 16 months from the date of awarding the contract. For Project C, it is 18 months.

The transmission system strengthening program under Phase II – Part A includes establishing a new 400/220 kV substation, 400 kV double circuit (D/C) transmission lines, and connected substation extension works in Rajasthan.

PGCIL will build the transmission system that incorporates establishing a 765 kV D/C transmission line and associated substation extension works as per the program under Phase II – Part B.

The program under Phase II – Part C includes developing a transmission system that includes establishing a new 765/400 kV substation, 765 kV D/C, and 400 kV D/C transmission lines with connected substation extension works.

In September 2020, PGCIL said it had started the commercial operation of the first leg of the 6 GW Raigarh-Pugalur high voltage direct current transmission project.

PGCIL, India’s largest electric power transmission utility, undertakes transmission of electricity through the Inter-State Transmission System.
