The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited bids to install rooftop solar power projects of 7.1 MW at the stations and sites of the Mumbai metro rail project.

The scope of work includes site survey, investigation, design, engineering, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of rooftop solar systems.

The successful bidder must provide comprehensive operations and maintenance (O&M) services for 25 years.

The last date to submit the bids is May 24, 2023. Bids will be opened the next day.

The renewable energy service company (RESCO) model will be used for the project. The model allows ownership for the developers while the consumer is required to pay only for the energy produced.

The solar power generated will be utilized for the station’s auxiliary and traction power needs. Any surplus solar power produced will be exported to the grid.

Bidders must pay a tender fee of ₹3000 (~$36.61) and furnish ₹1.3 million (~$16,931) as a security amount.

They must apply for 100% of tendered capacity for selected sites.

Each rooftop project may vary in size for each station or depot, ranging from 100 kW to 800 kW or more. The solar power will be consumed locally by linking it to the designated LT breaker.

LT breaker is a low-tension breaker used in electrical systems to protect against overloading and short circuits.

The work should be completed within 15 months from the Letter of Award.

Bidders should have experience in installing and commissioning solar power projects. Specifically, they must have completed grid-connected solar projects of at least 3.55 MW in total capacity during the last 10 years.

Additionally, bidders must have completed a rooftop solar project of a minimum of 2.84 MW during the last 10 years.

They should have an annual turnover of at least ₹332.2 million (~$4 million) in any one of the last 5 financial years.

Over the past few years, several metro projects throughout India have installed solar projects on the ground and rooftops of their stations and depots.

Recently, MMRDA invited bids to install 2 MW of rooftop solar systems at Mumbai Monorail Project stations and sites.

Mumbai Metro One, promoted by Reliance Infrastructure, commissioned a 612-kW rooftop solar power installation at its D.N. Nagar depot.
