Eleven companies have won Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam’s (RVUNL) auction to set up 1,000 MW/2,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The successful bidders are Stockwell Solar, Oswal Cables, Micromax Informatics, Patanjali Renewables, RCRS Innovations, Viviana Power Tech, Galaxy Mining and Royalties, Manda Projects, Mineralia Impex, Onward Solar, and S T Electricals.
Stockwell Solar, Oswal Cables, Micromax Informatics, Patanjali Renewables, and RCRS Innovations quoted a tariff of ₹177,500 (~$1,999.77)/MW/month to win 400 MWh, 200 MWh, 100 MWh, 200 MWh, and 100 MWh, respectively.
Viviana Power Tech, Galaxy Mining and Royalties, Manda Projects, and Mineralia Impex quoted a tariff of ₹178,000 (~$2,005.41)/MW/month to win 200 MWh, 200 MWh, 200 MWh, and 100 MWh, respectively.
Onward Solar and S T Electricals quoted ₹178,500 (~$2,011.04)/MW/month to win 200 MWh and 100 MWh.
The tender was floated in June this year.
Developers will receive a viability gap funding of ₹1.8 million (~$20,279)/MWh to set up the BESS.
Apart from setting up the BESS, the scope of work entails making the storage facility available to RVUNL for its on-demand charging and discharging. The BESS’s charging and discharging schedule will be under the scope of RVUNL or the Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services.
The BESS will be charged by power from the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam.
The BESS must have an AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of 85% at rated power and an annual availability of 95%.
The scope also involves setting up a BESS interconnection with the state transmission unit network.
Selected bidders must bear the entire cost of project construction, up to and including the interconnection point, which includes, but is not limited to, transmission lines, bay connection, and bus bar extension/augmentation. They must also bear the cost of protection relay augmentation, including protection and control panels, maintenance, and delivery.
They must obtain all consents and clearances and provide operation and maintenance services.
RVUNL may allot project land on actual charges. Selected bidders can also arrange land themselves. In such cases, RVUNL will assist the bidders with land identification and acquisition.
India added 48.4 MWh of energy storage capacity in the first half (1H) of 2025, a 74% decline from 186 MWh added in the same period last year, according to the newly released India’s Energy Storage Landscape 1H 2025 Report by Mercom India Research.
