Netherlands-headquartered architectural solar solutions company Kameleon Solar has announced it signed a strategic partnership and long-term technology licensing agreement with Bengaluru-based solar module manufacturing company Nithin Sai Renewables for advanced building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions.
The partnership aims to introduce BIPV solutions to the Indian subcontinent and the broader Middle East and North Africa region.
BIPV solutions integrate solar panels directly with a building’s structure. This technology replaces traditional building elements such as roofing, windows, or façades.
Under the agreement, Nithin Sai Renewables will manufacture Kameleon Solar’s proprietary ColorBlast BIPV technology locally.
Apart from BIPV, Kameleon Solar is involved in custom-made solar panels, research and development, project consulting, solar design, aesthetic solar panels, solar solutions for architects, integrated solar energy, and colored solar panels.
The company is leading a consortium of partners to develop a new production chain for circular, safe, and reliable multicolor façade solar modules. This initiative is part of the OPZuid program, a European-funded project that aims to develop a comprehensive, industry-wide approach for sustainable, safe, and multi-colored solar panels in building façades.
Nithin Sai Renewables manufactures power and solar equipment. It has executed greenfield projects in infrastructure, solar parks, and solar engineering, procurement, and construction contracts.
According to the Australian PV Institute, BIPV solutions offer value from an economic standpoint for power generation and help the transition of energy systems towards renewable-based sources. BIPV systems could help companies look beyond just their economic goals and aim to create a fossil-free business.
BIPV systems are products that generate power by replacing traditional building materials by serving as a weather barrier on building surfaces. These include solar tiles and facades. They can also help improve the architectural design of buildings.
In 2023, Nithin Sai announced its plans to build an automated solar module manufacturing line with a capacity of 500 MW.
