Jaipur-based solar module manufacturer Insolation Energy, through its subsidiary Insolation Green Energy, has entered into a five-year strategic partnership with U.S.-based perovskite solar technology company Caelux Corporation to commercialize 3 GW of advanced solar modules.
The partnership aims to develop hybrid tandem solar modules by integrating Caelux’s proprietary energy producing glass technology with Insolation’s N-type TOPCon manufacturing platform.
The technology mix can potentially increase energy generation and power density while reducing the levelized cost of electricity.
The energy producing glass technology converts the top glass of solar modules into an additional power generating layer to increase power density and improve solar project economics.
The partnership targets commercial production of modules with efficiencies of up to 29% by 2028.
Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate on technology validation, manufacturing readiness, and applicable regulatory approvals, including requirements for the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers.
The partnership aims to help bring the company’s solar technology into commercial production at scale in India.
The agreement takes Caelux’s global contracted volume with module manufacturers to more than 25 GW.
Insolation Energy operates three solar module manufacturing facilities in Jaipur, Rajasthan, with a combined annual production capacity of 5.5 GW.
The company is also developing a 4.5 GW TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility and an aluminum frame manufacturing facility with an annual capacity of 18,000 metric tons in Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh.
In September last year, Insolation Green Energy received a loan of ₹11.34 billion (~$129 million) from the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency in September for the Madhya Pradesh facility.
Its product portfolio includes TOPCon and monocrystalline passivated emitter and rear contact (Mono PERC) solar modules with capacities ranging from 500 Wp to 635 Wp.
INA Solar has an independent power producer portfolio of approximately 400 MW.
India’s operational solar module manufacturing capacity currently stands at 275 GW, approximately 5.5 times its operational cell manufacturing capacity. The country also has 265 GW of module manufacturing capacity in the pipeline, with 182 GW under construction and 83 GW announced.
