Indonesia Launches 5.3 GW Solar Projects, Eyes 100 GW in Three Years

The program will require an estimated investment of $73.37 billion

Indonesia has launched 14 solar power projects with a collective capacity of 5.3 GW across six provinces, marking the official rollout of the country’s 100 GW solar power program.

Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto said the 14 projects would be located across West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, the Bangka Belitung Islands, and the Riau Islands.

He said the government aims to develop 100 GW of solar capacity within three years.

Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, said the program will require an estimated investment of IDR1,140 trillion (~$73.37 billion). The program could generate approximately IDR73.9 trillion (~$4.76 billion) in annual subsidy savings and create around 5.52 million jobs.

In May, Indonesia’s government-owned corporation PT PLN floated a tender to set up 1.225 GW utility-scale solar projects under its PLTS Mentari Nusantara I project. The company launched the official tender process on April 30, 2026. The solar capacity will be set up across Sumatra (35 MW), Kalimantan (340 MW), Java (600 MW), Sulawesi (50 MW), West Nusa Tenggara (80 MW), and Maluku and Papua (120 MW).

In December last year, SEG Solar, a California-based solar module manufacturer, commenced the build-out of a 3 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Batang Regency.

The facility will be expanded to enable the manufacture of 5 GW of ingots and wafers. The company plans to invest approximately $80 million in the project, which will be fully funded by the company and constructed on a site spanning around 50,000 square meters. Commercial production at the facility is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

The project is a key component of the company’s strategy to establish a fully integrated, non–Foreign Entity of Concern solar supply chain to support the U.S. solar market.
