Renewable energy company, GH2 Solar, is setting up a green hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, in a joint venture with South Korea-based Advanced Hydrogen Energy Solutions (AHES).
The facility, located in the Pipersewa industrial area of the Morena district, will initially have a production capacity of 105 MW, awarded under the Solar Corporation of India’s (SECI) Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program. It will be supported by a Production Linked Incentive of ₹1.57 billion (~$17.89 million).
The project will receive a total investment of approximately ₹4 billion (~$45.43 million) in multiple phases. The first phase will receive an investment of ₹1 billion (~$11.36 million) to set up a 3 GWh battery energy storage system assembly line. The remaining amount will be disbursed in the subsequent phases by 2030 to expand the facility.
GH2 also aims to expand the electrolyzer capacity to 500 MW by 2030.
Through the joint venture with AHES, the company plans to bring advanced alkaline electrolyzer technology to India. It also plans to incorporate proton exchange membrane electrolyzers and other generation systems in the future.
GH2 has partnered with Rhizome Energy (UK) to ensure the project is competitive and efficient, producing tailored solutions for Indian conditions.
Invest India and the Skill Council for Green Jobs also support the facility. The company stated that the facility is expected to create over 300 direct jobs in manufacturing, operations, and research, as well as hundreds of secondary jobs in the supply chain, logistics, and renewable energy services segments.
The project will benefit high-emission sectors, such as steel, fertilizers, and refineries, in decarbonizing their operations and creating export opportunities to Europe and East Asia.
GH2 has delivered over 650 solar projects for more than 325 clients across India.
In August last year, GH2 Solar was among the winners of SECI’s auction to set up 1.5 GW of electrolyzer manufacturing capacities across India.
