Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has awarded 3,456 MW of offshore wind capacity in its latest auction round, exceeding the originally tendered volume of 3,450 MW.

The auction attracted strong interest from developers, with 905 bids submitted amounting to a combined capacity of 8,155 MW, more than twice the volume on offer.

Following the evaluation process, 415 bids totaling 3,456 MW were successful, while 37 bids were excluded.

Prices for the winning bids ranged from €0.0580 (~$0.06747)/kWh to €0.0612 (~$0.07119)/kWh. The average volume-weighted award price came in at €0.0606 (~$0.0705)/kWh, down from the previous auction round’s average of €0.0657 (~$0.07643)/kWh.

The awarded price also remained well below the applicable price ceiling of €0.0735 (~$0.0855)/kWh.

In terms of regional distribution, North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony dominated the awards. North Rhine-Westphalia secured the largest share with 1,093 MW across 148 bids, closely followed by Lower Saxony with 1,091 MW from 133 bids. Brandenburg ranked third, with projects totaling 262 MW awarded across 34 bids.

Bundesnetzagentur confirmed that the next onshore wind auction is scheduled to close for bid submissions on February 1, 2026.

In December, Bundesnetzagentur invited bids for 3.44 GW of onshore wind projects. The maximum bid value for this tender round is set at €0.072 (~$0.085). The tender is part of the total onshore wind capacity planned for 2026, totaling 10,000 MW, distributed across the four scheduled bidding rounds.

Bundesnetzagentur set price ceilings of €0.0725 (~$0.085)/kWh for onshore wind auctions to be held in 2026.

Germany installed nearly 21 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2025, bringing total capacity to approximately 210 GW, a 11% year-over-year increase. Onshore wind capacity increased by 4.6 GW in 2025, a significant increase from 2.6 GW added in 2024.

With the new installations, the total onshore wind capacity reached 68.1 GW by the end of 2025. To meet the target of 115 GW of onshore wind installations by 2030, Germany needs to install an average of 9.4 GW of new wind capacity annually each year.
