Solar and energy storage independent power producer Elgin has acquired the 200 MW Blackhall Solar Farm in County Meath, Ireland, from renewable energy company GP Joule.

The late-stage solar project has received consent and has grid connection arrangements in place. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Elgin said the acquisition expands its late-stage development pipeline in Ireland and increases the capacity it can enter in the upcoming Renewable Electricity Support Scheme auction. The company expects to invest approximately €200 million (~$228 million) in developing and constructing the Blackhall Solar Farm.

Speaking about the acquisition, Elgin Chief Executive at Dermot Kelleher, said, “Blackhall is one of the largest late-stage solar development opportunities in the Irish market and represents a significant addition to Elgin’s Irish platform. As we continue to grow our portfolio of owned renewable energy assets, projects like Blackhall will play an important role in supporting Ireland’s decarbonization ambitions, energy security and long-term economic growth.”

Elgin is also finalizing the construction and energization of approximately 150 MW of solar projects in Ireland under a previously announced portfolio transaction.

Founded in 2009, Elgin has 130 employees and offices in Dublin, London, Rome, and other locations. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners acquired a majority stake in Elgin in 2024.

The company has delivered more than 1 GW of ready-to-build projects, while more than 300 MW is under construction across the U.K. and Ireland. Its development pipeline exceeds 10 GW across solar and battery storage projects.

In April 2026, Elgin secured up to £500 million (~$672 million) of funding from a banking syndicate to accelerate the build-out of its U.K. pipeline over the coming years. The projects funded through this financing are planned to be commissioned in the coming years, with all expected to be operational before 2030.

According to Mercom’s 1H and Q2 2026 Solar Funding and M&A report, approximately 25.2 GW of solar projects were acquired in the first half of 2026, compared to 19.9 GW in the first half of 2025.
