MNRE proposes standard nomenclature for solar cells under ALMM List-II

As India’s energy storage market matures, battery energy storage developers say power purchase agreement (PPA) tenures need greater flexibility than the customary 20-25-year contracts used for solar and wind projects.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) revised its proposed standardized nomenclature for solar cells enlisted under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II.

MNRE issued a standard operating procedure requiring solar module model numbers submitted for registration or inclusion with the Bureau of Indian Standards to identify the countries where the modules and solar cells are manufactured.

MNRE expanded the ALMM List-II for solar cells in its 11th revision, taking the total enlisted capacity to 37,394 MW.

The Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission adopted a tariff of ₹2.98 (~$0.031)/kWh, determined through competitive bidding, for a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system.

The Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission rejected MP Power Transmission Company’s petition seeking approval to bill transmission charges to renewable energy-based long-term open access and medium-term open access customers strictly on contracted capacity.

NTPC Renewable Energy invited bids to procure power from interstate transmission system-connected pumped hydro projects. The last date to submit bids is November 3, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same day.

Mahanadi Coalfields, a subsidiary of Coal India, invited bids to set up grid-connected rooftop solar projects across 15 non-residential buildings at the Jagannath Open Cast Project in the Jagannath Area, Odisha. Bids must be submitted by October 21, 2026. Bids will be opened on October 23.

Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology invited bids to provide operation and maintenance services for a grid-connected solar power project at Kelapur in Maharashtra’s Wardha district. The last date to submit bids is October 15, 2026. Bids will be opened the next day.

The Indian Energy Exchange recorded an electricity traded volume of 39,685 million units during the second quarter of the financial year 2027, an increase of 12.7% year-over-year.

Textile manufacturer Vardhman Textiles signed agreements to procure 27 MW of power from Serentica Renewables’ wind and solar projects for its facilities in Himachal Pradesh.

Solar component manufacturer Vishakha Renewables filed a draft red herring prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Board of India for an initial public offering.

Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation will invest in a 500 MW solar and wind project with a co-located 200 MWh battery energy storage system in Bidar, Karnataka, being developed by Hero Future Energies, the renewable energy arm of the Hero Group.

Rising utility rates strengthened the case for U.S. residential solar, while prepaid third-party ownership financing improved affordability for price-sensitive customers after the federal residential solar tax credit expired at the end of 2025, according to EnergySage’s 23rd Home Electrification Marketplace Report.

The share of new residential solar systems paired with battery storage systems in the U.S. increased to 37% in 2025 from 25% in 2024, according to a new Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory report.
