Daily News Wrap-Up: KEC International Bags Order for 500 MW Solar Project in India

Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:

Global infrastructure engineering, procurement, and construction company KEC International secured a large order for a 500 MW solar project in India. The company also received new orders of ₹13.13 billion (~$158.86 million) across its various businesses. According to filings, KEC secured orders for three transmission and distribution projects. These are for a 220 kV GIS substation for a refinery project in India, a 500 kV transmission line in Thailand, and another 132 kV transmission line and associated substations in Nepal.

Ayana Renewable Power signed a power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL)  for a 140 MW wind project. Project Twelve Renewable Power, a special purpose vehicle of Ayana, was one of the winners in GUVNL’s auction to purchase power from 500 MW of grid-connected wind power projects (Phase-III). Ayana won 140 MW out of the bid capacity of 200 MW by quoting ₹3.27 (~$0.040)/kWh.

EV charging network company Statiq won a tender to supply 18 new chargers to Indian Oil Corporation. The state-owned oil company plans to set up the 30 kW and 60 kW four-wheeler fast chargers at prime locations within its network of petrol pumps. Over 31 million people visit IOCL’s fuel stations every day. Statiq has raised over ₹2 billion (~$24.19 million) in Series A funding. The company had teamed up with Hero Electric and Ather energy to enhance the combined EV charging network in North India. Statiq aims to have an approximately 20,000-strong charging network by the end of the year.

India H2 Alliance (IH2A) expanded its membership by including Hero Future Energies, bp, Welspun Corp, Tubacex, Climate Policy Initiative, and Climate Group. This takes IH2A’s membership base to fifteen, comprising seven industry members and eight partner organizations, all of whom work closely with the Central and state governments to help develop the hydrogen economy and supply chain in India. IH2A is working on attracting global climate finance to develop large-scale hydrogen hub development in India. New members Hero Future Energies and bp will join Chart Industries, Reliance Industries, and JSW Group in the IH2A Steering Group, which is supported by the IH2A Secretariat run by consulting firm FTI Consulting.

Ni Hsin EV Tech signed a strategic collaboration with SIRIM Berhad to set up a lithium-ion battery recycling plant in Malaysia through a public-private partnership model. The companies are expected to provide an ecosystem for a circular economy model to mitigate the environmental impact due to lithium-ion batteries being processed illegally in Malaysia. The companies would focus on recovering precious metals such as lithium and cobalt in 2024 and embark on lithium-ion battery manufacturing in 2025. The battery recycling pilot plant will be fully operational in 2023 with an annual recycling capacity of 550 tons of lithium-ion batteries. The output will be sold to lithium-ion battery manufacturers as black mass.
