Azure Power Commissions 137 MW of Solar

Azure Power commissioned 137 MW of solar in March 2017, including the 130 MW solar power system in Chitradurga district, Karnataka, under the Karnataka Solar Policy 2014-2021, and 7 MW of solar at defense establishments under Ministry of Defense, Government of India.

The Chitradurga Project in Karnataka comprises of three projects, a 50 MW and two 40 MW projects, according to the company. The 7 MW of solar developed at defense establishments comprises of a 5 MW solar project at Ambajhari and a 2 MW solar project at Bhandara, stated Mercom’s source at Azure Power.

Azure Power has signed power purchase aggrements with Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company Limited, Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited and Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company Limited at a tariff of Rs.6.51 (~$0.09)/kWh, to supply power generated from the 130 MW project for a 25-year period. Azure Power has signed PPA with Ministry of Defense to supply power at a blended tariff of Rs.5.36 (~0.08) per kWh for a 25-year period.

Azure Power is also planning to expand its EPC services for defense projects, which will add to the company’s expertise in the sector, added Mercom’s source at Azure Power. According to Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker, Azure Power has commissioned 627 MW of solar projects and projects aggregating 392 MW are under various stages of development.
