Underscoring its long-term commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and advancing clean energy adoption in the healthcare sector, Aster DM Healthcare has commissioned an 8.5 MW ground-mounted solar project in Kasargod, Kerala.

The project, executed by U-Solar Clean Energy Solutions, is expected to generate 14.03 million units of clean electricity annually, offsetting nearly 11,590 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

This initiative, according to U-Solar, marks Kerala’s first group captive solar project.

Aster DM Healthcare is an integrated healthcare provider operating multiple hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and labs across India and the Gulf Cooperation Council region.

The installation came with significant challenges, from steep and uneven slopes to rugged hilly terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. Through careful planning and execution, U-Solar’s team navigated the hurdles, ensuring seamless delivery.

Speaking on the achievement, K. R. Harinarayan, CEO of U-Solar, said, “The successful commissioning of the 8.5 MW group captive solar project for Aster DM Healthcare marks a major step in advancing clean energy in the healthcare sector. It supports our vision for a sustainable future while helping Aster DM reduce its carbon footprint and enhance energy resilience. We’re especially proud to have delivered Kerala’s first group captive solar project, setting a strong precedent for many more to follow and leading the way in the state’s clean energy journey.”

Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder & Chairman, Aster DM Healthcare, noted the successful commissioning of Aster’s large-scale solar park marks a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable healthcare. “As one of the country’s leading healthcare providers, Aster recognises the urgent need to reduce our environmental footprint while maintaining operational excellence. This solar park reflects our commitment of integrating clean energy into our infrastructure, ensuring energy security, long-term cost efficiency, and a reduced carbon impact. It is a step forward in aligning our values with global sustainability goals and setting a benchmark for green practices in the healthcare sector.”

With low interest rates, government-backed subsidies, and streamlined digital processing, there has never been a better time for companies to invest in solar energy. By adopting solar power, businesses can cut electricity costs and benefit from going green.

Mercom India hosts a multicity ‘C&I Clean Energy Meet’ series designed to provide commercial and industrial energy buyers with the knowledge and tools they need to adopt clean energy solutions and lower their power costs. The next Clean Energy Meet event will be held in Jaipur on September 19, 2025.
