The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) has invited bids for the development of pilot projects to produce green hydrogen from biomass.

The selected bidders may also be considered for implementation under ANERT-led initiatives, including pilot projects, hydrogen valley innovation cluster programs, or relevant programs of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The last date to submit bids is January 23, 2026, and shortlisting will take place on or before January 27, 2026.

The proposed projects should focus on the technology demonstration of producing green hydrogen from biomass.

Through this tender, ANERT seeks to co-develop and advance high-impact proposals that can contribute to Kerala’s broader climate and energy goals, while also supporting innovation-led India’s clean energy ecosystem.

ANERT will act as the co-funding partner and provide up to 20% of the project cost, or ₹50 million (~$550,395), whichever is lower.

The successful bidder will be required to design, develop, and operate the project for a minimum period of five years.

Evaluation of the bids will be based on the novelty of the proposed technology relative to existing technology and its improvement over the baseline.

Also, the bids will be evaluated on replicable design, availability of inputs at scale, and infrastructure compatibility.

Bidders can utilize ANERT funds toward eligible expenditure (OPEX), excluding land-related charges and statutory taxes.

In July last year, MNRE approved the release of ₹679.5 million (~$7.8 million) as the first tranche of central financial assistance (CFA) to four hydrogen valley innovation clusters under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. A hydrogen valley is a specific geographic region where hydrogen is used across sectors such as industry, energy, and mobility.

Earlier, ANERT invited expressions of interest for demonstration projects in green hydrogen, smart energy, and industrial decarbonization. The projects will be funded under two categories based on total project size, the level of external support sought, and the co-funding commitments expected from ANERT and the project developers.
