Amazon Web Services (AWS) will procure power from Gentari’s 80 MW wind power project in Tamil Nadu.

The project is expected to begin operations in mid-2027 and is projected to generate roughly 300,000 MWh of energy annually.

AWS, which signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gentari, aims to utilize the project to reach its net-zero carbon emissions goals by 2040.

The PPA follows a collaboration agreement signed by the two parties in 2023. As part of the agreement, Amazon announced a strategic fleet management partnership with Gentari to boost zero-tailpipe emission deliveries in India. This partnership was aimed at supporting Amazon’s last-mile electric fleet program locally, providing delivery service partners access to more three-wheeler electric vehicles for Amazon deliveries.

In 2023, Amazon deployed more than 7,200 EVs in India.

In February this year, Amazon announced it would procure a cumulative 379 MW of clean energy from three wind projects in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. The company was to procure power from CleanMax’s 100 MW wind project at Koppal in Karnataka, BluPine’s 99 MW wind project at Solapur in Maharashtra, and JSW Energy’s 180 MW wind project at Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu.

With these projects, Amazon would have 53 solar and wind power projects, capable of generating more than 4 MWh of energy annually.

Besides nine utility-scale solar and wind projects across the country, Amazon’s renewable energy portfolio in India also includes onsite solar arrays on 44 buildings that host Amazon operations.

Amazon had reached 50 wind and solar projects across India and a cumulative 1.1 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2023. This was following its announcement of a new 198 MW wind project in Osmanabad, Maharashtra.

Gentari was among the top open access solar developers in India, according to Mercom’s Q4 & Annual 2024 India Solar Open Access Market Report.
