The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has updated the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) by adding 2,988 MW of solar module manufacturing capacity.

The cumulative module manufacturing capacity has now reached 90,959 MW, after the latest additions.

Reliance Industries is the new entry in the list with a capacity of 1,716 MW.

Avaada Electro increased its capacity by adding 1,272 MW.

SASA Energy’s manufacturing capacity was revised from 100 MW to 98 MW, indicating a reduction of 2 MW in the list.

The total number of module manufacturers has now increased to 105.

In May this year, MNRE updated the ALMM by adding 8,653 MW of solar module manufacturing capacity.

In the same month, MNRE clarified that net billing, virtual, and group net metering will also be treated on a par with net metering provisions under the ALMM List-II.

Virtual and group net metering are models of net metering that cover a group of consumers of the same category or a single consumer with multiple service connections.

MNRE had also issued clarifications on solar cells in the ALMM. It clarified that it will treat potential induced degradation (PID) and non-PID cells as different products or families and list them separately.

In the same month, MNRE also reduced the minimum module efficiency requirement under ALMM for modules used in off-grid solar projects. The minimum efficiency for crystalline silicon (c-Si) technology modules used in off-grid solar projects is reduced to 18% from 19%. The efficiency for cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin film technology modules remains the same.

India added 25.3 GW of solar module capacity and 11.6 GW of solar cell capacity in calendar year 2024, according to Mercom’s State of Solar PV Manufacturing in India 2025 report. The manufacturing capacity additions in 2024 were primarily driven by demand from the solar project pipeline and the reimposition of the ALMM order from April 2024.
