Adani Energy Bags Transmission Project to Evacuate 1.5 GW of Power from PSPs

Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has bagged REC Power Development and Consultancy’s (RECPDCL) transmission project to evacuate 1.5 GW of power from pumped storage projects (PSP) near Talegaon, Maharashtra.

The project also includes the establishment of a substation of 3,000 MVA capacity.

Adani Energy won the project quoting ₹16.6 billion (~$194.26 million) and transmission charges of ₹2.21 billion (~$25.86 million).

Power Grid Corporation of India and Resonia (formerly Sterlite Grid 32) had also qualified for the technical bid round.

The tender was floated in October 2024.

The project is expected to be completed by January 2028.

Upon completion of the project, Adani Energy’s transmission network will reached 26,696 ckm and 93,236 MVA of transformation capacity.

The project will be executed by Adani Energy’s special purpose vehicle WRNES Talegaon Power Transmission .

The project It will include the establishment of a 2×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV substation to the south of Kalamb and LILO of Pune-III–Boisar-II 765 kV D/C line at the Kalamb substation.

According to the tender, Tata Power Company applied for connectivity for the Bhivpuri (1,150 MW) PSP at Bhivpuri, Raigad, in Maharashtra, for which the Central Transmission Utility of India had granted in-principle approval. Tata Power was also planning a 1,980 MW PSP in the same area.

To accommodate the increased power demand, a new substation is being planned in Kalamb, near Mumbai. The substation is expected to meet the demand from  Mumbai and Ambernath areas.

The project will be set up  on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis.

Adani Energy ill also undertake all project activities, including survey, detailed project report formulation, arranging finance, project management, necessary consents, clearances, permits and compensation, design, engineering, equipment, material, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning.

The company’s transmission order book stands at ₹616 billion (~$7.2 billion).

In January 2025, Adani Energy ESL won RECDCPL’s ₹250 billion (~$2.89 billion) Bhadla-Fatehpur High Voltage Direct Current transmission project to evacuate 6 GW of renewable energy.

In September 2024, it also won the Khavda IVA Power Transmission project to evacuate 7 GW of renewable energy from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park.
