Adani Electricity Mumbai (AEML) has invited bids to procure 500 MW/4,000 MWh of energy storage capacity along with an additional 250 MW/2,000 MWh under greenshoe option from pumped hydro storage projects (PSP) or battery energy storage systems.
Bids must be submitted by July 1, 2025. Bids will be opened on July 8.
Bidders must furnish a document fee of ₹10,000 (~$116) and a bid processing fee of ₹300,000 (~$3,503). They must also remit an earnest money deposit of ₹500,000 (~$5,838)/MW of the quoted capacity.
Selected bidders must submit ₹1 million (~$11,676)/MW of awarded capacity as a performance bank guarantee within 30 days of issuing the letter of award.
Selected developers must deliver the contracted capacity on a build-own-operate-maintain basis and handle all aspects of financing, development, design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and ongoing operation and maintenance.
Each project must have a minimum capacity of 50 MW and may be connected to an intra-state or interstate transmission system.
Projects that are already commissioned, under construction, or not yet commissioned but have surplus capacity available will also be considered, provided the full capacity of such projects has not been contracted under any central or state program.
Bidders will manage up to 500 MW of charging and discharging capacity, with the ability to discharge for eight hours daily, including a maximum of five hours of continuous discharge on demand, over a contract period of 40 years.
Only commercially proven and operational technologies will be accepted to ensure minimal technology risk and timely project commissioning.
Bidders proposing PSPs must submit a certificate from a statutory auditor or chartered accountant confirming previous experience in commissioning or operating thermal or hydro generation projects with a capacity equivalent to the current tender’s requirement.
Alternatively, bidders may qualify by demonstrating experience in successfully commissioning or operating renewable energy-based projects with a cumulative capacity of at least 1.5 times the quoted capacity.
Additionally, bidders will be eligible if they have completed engineering, procurement, and construction or item rate contracts in infrastructure sectors such as power, hydroelectric projects, water bodies, dams, metro systems, roads, reservoirs, or tunnels, with a minimum total project cost of ₹20 million (~$233,579)/MW of the quoted capacity, applicable only in the case of PSPs.
Bidders must have a minimum net worth of ₹15 million (~$175,184)/MW of the quoted capacity. They must also have a minimum annual turnover of ₹10 million (~$116,750)/MW of the quoted capacity during the previous financial year or at least seven days before the bid submission deadline.
The cycle loss of the energy storage projects must not exceed 25% and remain the same during the contract term. The minimum annual availability of the project must be 90%.
Bidders must demonstrate a minimum roundtrip/conversion efficiency of 75% for each charging-discharging cycle.
Adani Electricity Mumbai retained the top spot in FY 2024 distribution companies rankings. It secured the highest position with an integrated score of 99.8, selling a net energy volume of 9,813 million units.
In March last year, Adani Electricity Mumbai floated a tender to select project developers to supply 600 MW of power from grid-connected wind projects anywhere in India.
