Gurgaon-based independent power producer ACME Solar Holdings has commissioned 142.67 MW/481.49 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity in Rajasthan through its subsidiaries.
This storage capacity is part of the first phase of the company’s planned total of 585 MW/2,011.24 MWh.
The company said it is installing approximately 17 GWh of energy storage capacity in multiple phases across different states.
The latest commissioned storage projects are connected with the existing interstate transmission system. These projects will operate on a merchant and short-term basis to generate an additional revenue stream through the price differential between peak and non-peak demand hours.
The BESS projects will eventually be integrated with individual firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) projects under 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).
ACME said the energy storage projects are designed to enhance grid reliability and optimize power utilization by charging batteries during non-peak periods and discharging them during peak demand.
The storage projects aim to help balance energy supply and demand while improving grid stability.
ACME’s storage portfolio includes 481 MWh of battery storage capacity and an under-construction capacity of 5,105 MW, with approximately 16.5 GWh of installations.
Last December, ACME Solar Holdings secured ₹27.1 billion (~$298.1 million) from Power Finance Corporation for its 300 MW FDRE project that combines renewables with four hours of battery energy storage. It also received ₹8 billion (~$88 million) from the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure Development for its 150 MW solar plus energy storage project.
In October, the company signed a 25-year PPA with Tata Power Company for providing FDRE from its 50 MW solar plus storage project at a tariff of ₹4.43 (~$0.05)/kWh.
ACME Solar Holdings was among the winners of Rewa Ultra Mega Solar’s auction to develop a 600 MW grid-connected, ground-mounted solar power project with a battery storage system in the Morena Solar Park, Madhya Pradesh. The company secured a 220 MW capacity at a tariff of ₹2.76 (~$0.0313)/kWh.
