Q3 2025 MERCOM INDIA SOLAR OPEN ACCESS MARKET REPORT - 6.1 GW INSTALLED IN 9M 2025

In the first nine months (9M) of calendar year (CY) 2025, India added nearly 6.1 gigawatts (GW) of solar open access capacity, up over 13% from 5.4 GW in 9M 2024, according to the Q3 2025 Mercom India Solar Open Access Market report.

India added 2.2 GW of solar open access capacity in the third quarter (Q3) of 2025.

Open access installations maintained year-over-year (YoY) growth driven by steady demand from commercial and industrial consumers, resulting in increased installations in 9M 2025.

Capacity additions in Q3 were, however, hampered by delays in grid connectivity approvals, restricted substation access, and limited transmission evacuation capacity in states with weaker grid infrastructure.

Karnataka remained the leading state in cumulative installations, accounting for nearly 25% of solar open access capacity. Maharashtra and Gujarat ranked second and third, with 17% and 12% of total installations, respectively, through the end of Q3 2025.
