					</table><p>Diversified group <a href="https://www.ril.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reliance Industries</a> said it aims to install 100 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030 to contribute significantly to sustainability.</p>
<p>Addressing the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the company, Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said over the next five years, Reliance is committed to transitioning a significant portion of its energy footprint in connectivity and digital services to green energy sources.</p>
<p>Ambani reaffirmed Reliance&#8217;s determination to achieve Net Carbon Zero by 2035, harnessing the power of renewables and bioenergy.</p>
<p>The company said its priority is to deliver a fully integrated, end-to-end solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing ecosystem. Its planned gigafactory aims to offer adaptability and competitive pricing while transforming sand into solar photovoltaic modules.</p>
<p>The solar gigafactory&#8217;s operations will encompass the production of PV modules, cells, wafers, ingots, polysilicon, and glass, all situated in a singular location in Jamnagar. The phased rollout of the factory is targeted for completion by the end of 2025.</p>
<p>Utilizing heterojunction technology, the facility will manufacture solar PV cells and modules, catering to both large-scale utility and rooftop power generation.</p>
<p>They will also embark on wind power generation endeavors. The company said it has made significant progress in developing a manufacturing ecosystem critical to achieving cost-efficient wind power generation at giga scale.</p>
<p>Ambani said a significant factor influencing costs in wind blade manufacturing is carbon fiber. The company’s venture into large-scale carbon fiber production is expected to bestow an advantage, enabling deeper integration and reduced expenses in wind turbine manufacturing.</p>
<p>The Reliance Chairman also talked of a battery gigafactory by 2026, encompassing the production of battery chemicals, cells, and packs and extending to containerized energy storage solutions.</p>
<p>Reliance said it has a clear plan for electrolyzer and green hydrogen production.</p>
<p>The company said it is progressing well to deploy its committed capital of ₹750 billion (~$9 billion) to build a new energy manufacturing ecosystem.</p>
<p>After initiating two Compressed Biogas (CBG) demonstration units in Jamnagar, the company has successfully inaugurated its initial commercial-scale CBG facility in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, within ten months.</p>
<p>Plans are underway for the expansion of this initiative, with 25 CBG plants slated for deployment across India. The broader objective involves establishing a total of 100 CBG plants over the next five years, utilizing 5.5 million tonnes of agricultural residue and organic waste.</p>
<p>Recently, Reliance was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/reliance-renew-tata-power-winners-pli-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> as one of the winners by the Solar Energy Corporation of India who would be eligible to receive a total of ₹139.4 billion (~$1.69 billion) under Tranche II of the performance-linked incentive (PLI) program to manufacture 39.6 GW of solar modules.</p>
<p>The company was also one of the <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/reliance-others-invest-12-million-perovskite-firm-caelux" target="_blank" rel="noopener">participants</a> in Caelux, a U.S.-based perovskite solar cell technology firm’s closure of a $12 million series A3 funding round led by Temasek, a global investment company.</p>

<p><strong>Ambri, a provider of long-duration energy storage systems, </strong><a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20221018005173/en/Ambri-and-Reliance-Industries-Expand-Strategic-Alliance-to-Accelerate-Commercialization-of-Ambri-Batteries-in-India" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to deliver a pilot battery storage system to Reliance Industries</strong>. The system will be shipped by mid-2023 and commissioned immediately after that. This agreement signed between Reliance and Ambri last year provided an exclusive collaboration to set up a large-scale battery manufacturing facility in India, which could add scale and further reduce costs for Reliance&#8217;s green energy initiative.</p>
<p><strong>Sasol and ArcelorMittal South Africa </strong><a href="https://www.sasol.com/media-centre/media-releases/sasol-arcelormittal-south-africa-partner-decarbonise-and-reindustrialise-vaal-saldanha-through" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> a partnership to develop carbon capture</strong> <strong>technology to produce sustainable fuels and chemicals and green steel production through green hydrogen and derivatives.</strong> Under the agreement, the companies will advance studies into two potential projects: the Saldanha green hydrogen and derivatives study, which will explore the region&#8217;s potential as an export hub for green hydrogen and green steel production. The Vaal carbon capture will study renewable electricity and green hydrogen to convert captured carbon from ArcelorMittal South Africa&#8217;s Vanderbijlpark&#8217;s steel plant into sustainable fuels and chemicals. The two potential projects would drive the re-industrialization of both the Saldanha and the Vaal regions, boosting the opportunity to develop a green hydrogen ecosystem, thereby enabling long-term, sustainable benefits for communities and the country.</p>
<p><strong>Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF, and Khazna Data Centers </strong><a href="https://www.khazna.ae/news/emerge-signs-agreement-to-develop-solar-plant-for-khazna-data-centers-facility-in-masdar-city/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>signed</strong></a><strong> an agreement to develop a ground-mounted solar power project to power Khazna&#8217;s new data center in Masdar City.</strong> The project will have an installed capacity of 7 MW and provide electricity to the Khazna Abu Dhabi 6 facility, which is currently under construction in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi&#8217;s flagship sustainable urban development. Emerge will provide a turnkey solution for the project, including finance, design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance, for 25 years. The Masdar City facility, scheduled to be operational in 2023, is Khazna&#8217;s second data center in the City.</p>
<p><strong>Axium Infrastructure and Canadian Solar&#8217;s subsidiaries Recurrent Energy and CSI Energy Storage </strong><a href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/axium-infrastructure-and-canadian-solars-subsidiaries-recurrent-energy-and-csi-energy-storage-announce-operation-of-worlds-largest-single-phase-energy-storage-project-301651926.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that Crimson Storage, a 350 MW/1,400 MWh energy storage project is now operational and providing flexible capacity to the California grid</strong>. CSI Energy Storage was the turnkey system integrator of the project delivering the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services and will provide long-term operational services for the project. Crimson Storage is the largest battery storage project in the world to reach operation in a single phase and the second largest energy storage project currently operating.</p>

					</table><p>Diversified Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries (<a href="https://www.ril.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RIL</a>) has targeted installing 20 GW of solar energy generation capacity by 2025.</p>
<p>Addressing RIL’s annual general meeting, Group Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that the solar capacity would entirely cater to the group’s captive needs of round-the-clock power supply and intermittent energy supply for green hydrogen production.</p>
<p>Ambani said RIL aims to install 100 GW of solar energy generation capacity by 2030.</p>
<p>Reliance intends to become a net carbon zero company by 2035. Its renewable energy consumption soared 352% last year, he said.</p>
<p><strong>Solar manufacturing</strong></p>
<p>In October 2021, Reliance acquired REC Solar Holdings, a Norway-headquartered solar cell, modules, and polysilicon manufacturing company known for its high-efficiency solar panels of Heterojunction Technology (HJT). In April 2022, Reliance also inked an <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-purchase-production-lines-hjt-cells/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agreement</a> with Maxwell Technology, to purchase eight high-efficiency production lines for HJT, each with 600 MW capacity, to manufacture an annual capacity of 4.8 GW of HJT cells.</p>
<p>The Group Chairman stated that the company has a defined improvement roadmap with a target to increase the HJT module efficiency to 26% by 2026 from the current 23%, and further improve it to 28% through innovations like perovskite-tandem cell technology. They also aim to extend the life of PV modules from 25 to 50 years. The Chairman noted that the 10 GW solar PV cell and module facility at Jamnagar, based on REC technology, will commence production by 2024 and scale up to 20 GW annual capacity in a phased manner by 2026.</p>
<p>The company will also invest in glass and PolyOlefin Encapsulant (POE) film manufacturing to provide security of supplies for their module manufacturing facilities.</p>
<p><strong>Green Hydrogen</strong></p>
<p>Ambani stated that the company was advancing its operations to commence the transition from Grey Hydrogen to Green Hydrogen by 2025 after evaluating Reliance’s cost and performance targets in this area of clean energy.</p>
<p>Reliance has signed a cooperation agreement with <a href="https://www.stiesdal.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stiesdal</a> to develop and manufacture Steisdal’s Pressurised Alkaline Electrolyzers in India. Ambani noted that Reliance is in advanced discussions to partner with other leading electrolyzer technology providers globally to set up a giga-scale electrolyzer manufacturing facility at Jamnagar.</p>
<p>Reliance <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-invest-green-energy-projects-gujarat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a memorandum of understanding with the Gujarat government earlier this year to invest ₹5.955 trillion (~$80.61 billion) in renewable energy projects. It proposed encouraging small and medium enterprises to opt for new technologies and facilitating the adoption of captive use of green hydrogen and clean energy.</p>
<p><strong>Energy Storage</strong></p>
<p>The Chairman said Reliance would set up four gigafactories to produce energy storage systems (ESS), solar photovoltaic panels, green hydrogen, and fuel cell systems. The group aims to develop a fully integrated ‘New Energy Manufacturing Ecosystem’ in Jamnagar, for which the company has committed an <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-foray-into-solar-battery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investment</a> of ₹750 billion (~$9.3 billion).</p>
<p>The company plans to start production of battery packs by 2023 and scale up to a fully integrated 5 GWh annual cell-to-pack manufacturing facility by 2024, and further scale up to 50 GWh annual capacity by 2027.</p>
<p>To strengthen its supply chain for large-scale manufacturing and growing ESS and electric vehicle markets, Reliance strategically <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-acquires-lithium-werks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acquired</a> 100% assets of Lithium Werks, a cobalt-free lithium-ion phosphate batteries provider, for $61 million, in March. It also <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-acquire-battery-technology-faradion/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acquired</a> sodium-ion battery technology provider Faradion for £100 million (~$110.65 million) and has <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-invest-energy-storage-ambri/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invested</a> $50 million in Ambri, a company providing long-duration energy storage solutions based on Liquid Metal technology.</p>
<p>Ambani said India had the potential to become a credible renewable energy alternative to China and said that the country’s and world’s transition from fossil fuels to renewables would pave the way for Reliance’s hyper-growth.</p>

Reliance Targets 20 GW Solar Power Generation Capacity by 2025 for Captive Use

<p>Reliance Industries Limited (<a href="https://www.ril.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RIL</a>) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to invest ₹5.955 trillion (~$80.61 billion) in renewable projects as a part of the investment promotion activity for the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2022.</p>
<p>Reliance said that it proposes to invest ₹5 trillion (~$67.69 billion) in the state to set up 100 GW of renewable energy projects and a green energy ecosystem over 10 to 15 years to make Gujarat a carbon-free and net-zero state.</p>
<p>The company has also started scouting land for 100 GW renewable energy projects in Kutch, Banaskantha, and Dholera. It has also requested 450,000 acres of land in Kutch.</p>
<p>Reliance proposes encouraging small and medium enterprises to embrace new technologies and facilitate the growth of captive use of renewable energy and green hydrogen.</p>
<p>The company also said it would invest another ₹600 billion (~$8.12 billion) to set up new energy manufacturing and integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities that would include solar module manufacturing (polysilicon, wafers, cells, and modules), electrolyzer, battery energy storage system (BESS), and fuel cells.</p>
<p>Further, ₹250 billion (~$3.38 billion) will be invested in existing projects and new ventures over the next three to five years.</p>
<p>Reliance New Energy Solar Limited, Reliance’s green energy arm, recently <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-acquire-battery-technology-faradion/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an agreement with sodium-ion battery technology provider Faradion Limited to acquire a 100% stake for £94.42 million (~$127.42 million). The proposed acquisition is part of a series of investments and acquisitions Reliance has made in recent months.</p>
<p>Last month, Reliance Industries <a href="https://mercomindia.com/green-loan-reliance-rec-acquisition/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">availed</a> $736 million (~₹54.27 billion) equivalent green loans from five banks to fund its acquisition of Norway-headquartered solar cells, modules, and polysilicon manufacturer REC Solar Holdings.</p>
<p>In June last year, Reliance Industries had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-foray-into-solar-battery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that it would invest ₹750 billion (~$10 billion) to build an integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) factory, advanced energy storage battery manufacturing unit, green hydrogen, and fuel cell facility in Gujarat’s Jamnagar. The project is slated to be one of the largest integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities globally.</p>
