<p><strong>Mumbai-based hi-tech engineering company Larsen &amp; Toubro (L&amp;T) </strong><a href="https://www.larsentoubro.com/pressreleases/2023-01-13-larsen-toubro-and-h2carrier-as-sign-mou/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Norway-based H2Carrier (H2C)</strong> to develop floating green ammonia projects for industrial-scale applications. H2C plans to build its P2XFloater — floating production unit for producing green ammonia — at yards in Asia. L&amp;T will design, and fabricate the topside process and utility modules to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia, including electrolyzers, a nitrogen generation plant, and an ammonia synthesis unit.</p>
<p><strong>Clearway Energy Group, a Hawaii-based independent power producer <a href="https://www.clearwayenergygroup.com/press-releases/clearway-completes-oahus-second-utility-scale-solar-battery-farm/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the commissioning of its 36 MW solar farm with 144 MWh of battery storage on Kamehameha Schools’</strong> lands in Waiawa in Central O‘ahu of Hawaii. The site is expected to generate enough clean energy to power more than 7,600 homes each year. The project represents a $150 million investment on approximately 180 acres of land leased from Kamehameha Schools. The solar farm would generate clean electricity at about half the cost of fossil fuels and feed the entire O‘ahu grid, benefiting all island consumers. The battery system would store electricity to make it available after the sun goes down and when the demand for power peaks.</p>
<p><strong>Tata Power <a href="https://www.tatapower.com/media/PressReleaseDetails/1998/tata-power-leads-ev-charging-space-with-a-pan-india-network" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a nationwide plan to set up approximately 25,000 electric vehicles (EV) charging points across India to support faster adoption of e-mobility over the next five years</strong>. The company’s EV charging initiatives are in line with the Government of India’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan. Tata Power currently provides over 3,600 public/semi-public chargers and 23,500+ residential chargers. Many of these charging stations are also equipped with fast charging technology.</p>
<p><strong>The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has </strong><a href="https://www.energy.gov/articles/us-department-energy-announces-42-million-develop-more-affordable-and-efficient-advanced" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> $42 million in funding for 12 projects to develop affordable and efficient EV batteries in America. </strong>The move is in support of President Biden’s goals to develop advanced technologies in America that will power the clean energy transition globally. Projects selected under the Electric Vehicles for American Low-Carbon Living (EVs4ALL) program aim to expand domestic EV adoption by developing batteries that last longer, charge faster, perform efficiently in freezing temperatures and have better overall range retention. Electrifying the transportation sector is critical to rapidly decarbonizing the American economy and eliminating heavy-emitting industries.</p>
<p><strong>Supplier and distributor of transportation fuels Greenergy has </strong><a href="https://www.octohydrogen.com/press-releases/greenergy-octopus-hydrogen-delivery-partnership#:~:text=Octopus%20Hydrogen%20and%20Greenergy%20Flexigrid%20%28%E2%80%98Greenergy%E2%80%99%29%20have%20agreed,and%20dispensing%20of%20green%20hydrogen%20on%20customer%20sites." target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>agreed</strong></a><strong> to form a logistics partnership with Octopus Hydrogen for the collection and delivery of green hydrogen.</strong> The “NanoSUN’ mobile refueling units will be transported by Greenergy, and allow delivery, storage, and dispensing of green hydrogen at Octopus Hydrogen’s customer sites. Octopus Hydrogen aims to tackle sectors that cannot be decarbonized easily through electrification, for example, heavy goods transportation, industrial applications, marine, and aviation. The first delivery was completed last month.</p>

					</table><p><a href="https://esmito.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Esmito</a>, an IIT Madras incubated electric vehicle (EV) startup, has raised ₹100 million (~$1.25 million) in a seed round led by Mumbai-based early-stage investor <a href="https://www.unicornivc.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Unicorn India Ventures</a>.</p>
<p>The funds raised will be used to expand swapping solutions and strengthen the technology team with a focus on creating world-class products. It will enable Esmito to continue executing its growth strategy and strengthen its position as the largest swapping infra solutions provider.</p>
<p>“The booming battery swapping market coupled with Esmito’s strength of in-house technology capability can enable Esmito to lead the Energy/ Battery as a Service market,” said Hasan Ali, Co-founder of Estimo.</p>
<p>The Chennai-based startup has developed multiple EV technologies with the <a href="https://cbeev.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Centre for Battery Engineering and Electric Vehicles (C-BEEV)</a> and has been instrumental in shaping standardization and policy alignments for the larger adoption of swapping in the country. The company has also launched smart battery swap solutions for mobility service providers.</p>
<p>It aims to create multiple use cases in key segments like logistics &amp; MAAS (Mobility as a Service) and build and scale their swapping solutions further for India&#8217;s two- and three-wheeler market.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.niti.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NITI Aayog</a> has <a href="https://mercomindia.com/draft-battery-swapping-policy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proposed</a> a policy to promote battery swapping using advanced chemistry cell batteries to decouple battery costs from the upfront costs of buying electric vehicles. The policy also sets technical standards for components&#8217; interoperability within a battery-swapping ecosystem. The policy would use regulatory levers to de-risk the battery swapping ecosystem and unlock access to competitive financing.</p>
<p>“The EV industry, according to various estimates, is projected to see anywhere between 30-90% CAGR (compound annual growth rate), sustained through this decade and possibly even beyond. This roughly translates into EV sales overtaking ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle sales by the mid-to-late 2030s, with India becoming the third largest EV market. Combined with the fact that this adoption will be much faster in the commercial 2W and 3W categories which Esmito aims to serve, we think that there is a lot of potential for rapid value creation in this space,” said Sparsh Kumar, Vice President, Unicorn India Ventures.</p>
<p>This month, the states of <a href="https://mercomindia.com/chhattisgarhs-ev-policy-targets-15-percent-vehicles-electric-2027/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chhattisgarh</a>, <a href="https://mercomindia.com/rajasthan-thrust-electric-vehicle-manufacturing-in-ev-policy-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rajasthan</a>, and <a href="https://mercomindia.com/punjab-25-ev-registrations-2027-incentivizes-giga-battery-manufacturing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Punjab</a> issued their EV policies outlining the EV targets, incentives for battery swapping stations, and the building of charging infrastructure in their respective states.</p>
<p>According to Mercom’s <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/product/1h-q2-2022-funding-ma-report-for-storage-grid-efficiency/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1H and Q2 2022 Funding and M&amp;A Report for Storage, Grid and Efficiency</a>, corporate funding for battery storage companies in 1H 2022 globally was up 64% year-over-year to $17 billion.</p>

EV Startup Esmito Raises ₹100 Million to Expand Battery Swapping Solutions

<p>Government’s Energy Efficiency Services Limited (<a href="https://www.eeslindia.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EESL</a>) has issued a tender for 200 fast chargers along with three years’ on-site warranty and annual maintenance contract. The tender, extendable up to 10 years, will follow international competitive bidding process.</p>
<p>The bidder will be responsible for the location survey, planning, supply, installation, and commissioning of fast chargers. The last date for the submission of bids is April 30, 2019 and technical bids will open on the same date.</p>
<p>This initiative is called ‘Demand-Side Energy Efficiency Investment Project,’ and a consortium of two private entities (or a combination of private limited, limited or government companies) will be eligible to bid. However, proprietorships or individuals won’t be eligible to bid.</p>
<p><em>“In case where the bidder is a consortium, relevant combined experience of all the members of the consortium will be considered provided that all the consortium members are manufacturers/suppliers of the electrical equipment related to battery chargers, storage and AC to DC and DC to DC converters and metering and have relevant experience for meeting the requirement above”,</em> mentions bid document.</p>
<p>A bidder should be profitable in at least two years out of three previous financial years, and their average annual turnover should not be less than ₹1.4 billion ($20.22 million).</p>
<p>Of late, several agencies have announced their foray in the electric vehicle charging segment in the face of rapid uptake of electric vehicles in various states.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/ntpc-tender-electric-vehicle-charging-stations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">This month</a>, the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) also invited bids to set up charging stations for electric vehicles including buses and four-wheelers, on a turnkey basis. Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments Limited <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reil-tender-270-ev-charging-stations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also issued a</a> tender to set up 270 electric vehicles charging equipment across various locations in the country.</p>
